Frequently Asked Questions
Kakuma Eco-Bag is a refugee-led social enterprise based in Kakuma, Turkana County, Kenya. We train and work with youth to handcraft eco-friendly khaki bags and paper products from recycled materials. It’s how we keep skills, income, and value rooted in the community.
We create eco-friendly packaging from locally sourced khaki paper: shopping bags, envelopes, popcorn bags, book covers, gift boxes, cake boxes, and medical packaging. We also turn production waste into affordable charcoal briquettes for the community.
We’re refugee-led and use a cooperative model. Our trainees don’t work for us, they work as us. Every product replaces plastic, supports a young person earning income, and keeps value in the community instead of importing from Nairobi.
It means our trainees don’t just learn skills and leave. They join the team, produce together, and share profits from what they create. Everyone has ownership, accountability, and a real reason to show up and do great work.
Yes! We’re actively training youth across Turkana County and expanding to more towns. If you want to learn skills and grow with us, fill out the quick registration form below and we’ll be happy to bring you on board.
You can support our growth efforts, place an order, or reach out to learn how we work. We collaborate with organizations that believe in community-led solutions and want to create real impact with refugee-led enterprises.
